Texas-Texas A&M battle shaping up for 4-star EDGE Solomon Williams
Tampa (Fla.) Carrollwood Day four-star EDGE Solomon Williams is one of the most prized uncommitted recruits left in the 2024 class.
The 6-foot-2, 255-pounder is a major target for Alabama, Oregon, Texas, Texas A&M and others, and he will until ink hits paper in December during the Early Signing Period.
Williams has become a top priority for the Aggies and Longhorns, and he has visited those two schools in back-to-back weeks. Because of that, says InsideTexas.com recruiting analyst Gerry Hamilton, it looks to be a two-team battle shaping up for him.
“I think what’s interesting is at the end of the summer, there was some chatter that Alabama might be out in front,” Hamilton said Monday during On3’s Inside Scoop recruiting show. “I think right now this thing is trending to Texas A&M vs. Texas. He was at the Texas A&M-Auburn game unofficially two weeks ago, then he was at Texas officially this weekend with his mom for the game against Kansas. Next weekend, he’s going back to College Station for an official visit for the Aggies game versus Alabama.”
Texas A&M might have the slight edge with Solomon Williams
The Aggies and Longhorns have gone head-to-head on plenty of in-state prospects, but it’s not as often they do so on an out-of-state one. But Williams, the No. 181 overall recruit in the On300, is a player both see as big piece to finishing their 2024 classes.

Given that after this weekend he’ll have been in College Station two of the last three weeks, Hamilton thinks the Aggies have an advantage right now.
“If you follow the visits, A&M fans are probably feeling pretty good about this right now,” he added. “But I think is trending toward Texas vs. Texas A&M for one of the top EDGE prospects in the country who just happens to be out of Carrollwood Day in Tampa. It’ll be interesting to see what happens down the stretch. He’s currently scheduled to go back to Alabama for the Tennessee game, possibly Oregon. I’m interested to see if he makes those visits or how long this goes on.”
The Longhorns currently have a pair of prospects already committed at the EDGE spot: Five-Star Plus+ Colin Simmons and four-star Zina Umeozulu.
