South Alabama linebacker Khalil Jacobs has entered his name into the transfer portal.

Jacobs had spent the past two seasons with the Jaguars. While in Mobile, he appeared in 20-plus games for their defense. Now, he will be on the move elsewhere as a transfer during the spring window.

In total, Jacobs has posted 60 tackles, three sacks, three forced fumbles, and an interception in his career. That included a breakout sophomore season this past fall where he put up nearly all of that overall production. He had 56 of his tackles with all of his sacks, forced fumbles, and the pick in 2023.

Jacobs played high school football at Niceville in Florida where he was a recruit during the 2022 cycle. He then committed to South Alabama and their head coach in Kane Wommack. He is now the the new defensive coordinator at Alabama under Kalen DeBoer.

With Wommack leaving for Tuscaloosa and the program hiring Major Applewhite, a handful of transfers have decided to leave the Jaguars. Nine players, including Jacobs, have entered the portal with seven being on the defensive side of the ball. A trio of them have committed to new schools and ended up at major programs. WR Caullin Lacy is at Louisville, CB Yam Banks went to Ole Miss, and CB Marquise Robinson left for Arkansas.

As for additions, South Alabama has brought in five transfers from out of the portal during the offseason. Two of those are for the defense in S Lardarius Webb Jr. (Oklahoma State) and DL Bryston Dixon (Georgia Tech), two for the offense in TE Andrew Bench (Bowling Green) and IOL Malachi Preciado (Purdue), and one specialist in a kicker with Laith Marjan (East Carolina).

Per the latest from Jacobs in a conversation with On3’s Pete Nakos and Hayes Fawcett, Alabama, Auburn, Duke, Indiana, MissouriNC State, and Tulane have all been in contact with him since his entry into the portal.
