Former South Alabama Jaguars linebacker Khalil Jacobs has finally decided where he will play football this season. On3’s Hayes Fawcett reports that he would be heading to the SEC after committing to play for Eli Drinkwitz and his Missouri Tigers program.

The six-foot-two 220-lbs linebacker chose Missouri over multiple SEC programs. Jacobs found himself being recruited by the likes of Ole Miss, Auburn, and Alabama after scheduling and attending visits with each program.

Jacobs, who played his high school football at Niceville High School in his hometown of Niceville, FL, spent the last two seasons in the SEC’s backyard playing for South Alabama. He would spend two seasons with the Jaguars before opting to enter the transfer portal this offseason. In his freshman year, he played in 11 games and recorded just four tackles. However, last season, Jacobs would improve on those numbers significantly with more playing time. In 2023, he would record 56 tackles, 25 solo, 8.5 tackles for loss, three sacks, three force fumbles, and an interception and 13 games.

Missouri has been in the market for a linebacker since the spring transfer portal window opened. Earlier in the spring, the Tigers lost out on former Michigan Wolverines and Charlotte 49ers transfer linebacker Nikhai Hill-Green. Hill-Green opted to take his talents to the Big 12, joining returning member Colorado and their second-year head coach, Deion Sanders.

Given his close proximity to the two Alabama programs, it was believed that the Crimson Tide and Auburn Tigers had the leg up in recruiting the former Jaguars linebacker. The Crimson Tide was looked at as the favorite in most individuals’ eyes due to the immediate connection he had with the program.

Jacob’s former head coach at South Alabama, Kane Wommack, left that position as well over the off-season to become Alabama’s new defensive coordinator under newly hired head coach Kalen DeBoer. But in the end, it was Drinkwitz and company that swooped in to acquire the services of the young talented linebacker for the fast-approaching 2024 season.
