South Carolina coach Shane Beamer has a ton of confidence in first-year starter LaNorris Sellers as the redshirt freshman makes his first start on Saturday against Old Dominion.

Beamer spoke with the SEC Network before the game about what he expects to see from Sellers and what the Gamecocks need to do around him in order for the South Carolina offense to be successful.

“I’m excited to watch him. I just told him, we’ve got a lot of new guys. We’re going to make some mistakes. We’re young, particularly on offense. But he’s extremely talented,” Shane Beamer said. “We’ve gotta be great around him. We’ve gotta run the ball. And he’s a gamer. There’s other freshmen I’m worried about. I’m not worried about that guy.”

Beamer and the Gamecocks are opening the season at home, in front of a soldout crowd. Beamer is thankful to be playing at Williams-Brice Stadium in a full house.

“Yea, it never gets old,” Beamer said. “Done it a bunch of times now and I still get goosebumps and chills every time. We’ve got the greatest fans in America. You see that today. It’s a home opener, non-SEC game. It’s 1,000 degrees out here. And it’s sold out and this place is rocking. So excited to watch our guys play.”

Loggains has previously been an offensive coordinator in the NFL and is accustomed to two-minute warnings. He recently spoke about how this college football season will be different with the two-minute timeout.

“Well, there’s two things that you have to consider with it. Obviously it stops the clock,” Loggains said. “College is always a little bit different because first downs stop the clock, as well. But it definitely does. There’s situations you handle, pre two-minute, post two-minute that will be a little bit differently.”

Dowell Loggains added that timeouts are incredibly valuable and having an extra one should benefit the offense.

“Obviously it will give you another built in timeout. Timeouts still have a lot of value in college football. In pro football they’re like gold,” Loggains said. “And you watch most of these games that are one-score games in college and pro football, and most of the time the team with two or three timeouts left in the end has a huge advantage over the other team. So timeouts are important. This is just adding another one.”
