Since losing its season opener to now-No. 8 Notre Dame, Texas A&M has rattled off seven wins in a row, including five in SEC play. The 7-1 and No. 10 Aggies have knocked off Missouri and LSU along the way, both of which were ranked in the top 10 at the time.

But there are no weeks off in the SEC, and that’s especially true this season.

Texas A&M is making the trip this weekend to Columbia, South Carolina, to play a Gamecocks team that is 4-3 overall, 2-3 in conference competition and coming off an off week.

Before South Carolina got a chance to press pause on its 2024 campaign, it pummeled Oklahoma, 35-9. The week before that, the Gamecocks scored 19 straight points to take a lead into the fourth quarter against then-No. 7 Alabama at Bryant-Denny Stadium. The Crimson Tide won, but only after South Carolina threw one more punch, swinging a two-point conversion short of an overtime showdown.

Texas A&M leads the all-time series against South Carolina, 9-1. The Gamecocks’ lone victory arrived two years ago when wide receiver Xavier Legette housed the opening kickoff, South Carolina staked itself to a 17-0 lead and ultimately held on for a 30-24 win.

That upset took place in Williams-Brice Stadium. That’s where this year’s matchup will be played, too.

No team is completely healthy at this point of the season, and that includes the Gamecocks and Aggies.

South Carolina has the benefit of its off week heading into Saturday’s contest. Not only did the Gamecocks get one extra week to prepare for Texas A&M, but they also got some time to heal up.

During his Tuesday press conference, South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer shared the latest on wide receiver Jared Brown and defensive lineman DeAndre Jules.

“We’re in pretty good shape from a health standpoint,” Beamer said. “Jared Brown’ll be back this week. Jules probably won’t be. But other than that, we’re in great shape.

“We’re healthier, we’re more experienced.”

Brown hasn’t played since the Ole Miss game on Oct. 5. The redshirt junior originally suffered a lower-body injury three weeks before that against LSU. He’s got eight catches for 103 receiving yards this season, not to mention his two carries for 27 yards.

As for Jules, he’s been out since the Ole Miss game, too. The sixth-year Gamecocks defensive lineman has logged 102 defensive snaps across five outings this season, per Pro Football Focus. He’s tallied 12 total tackles this year, including nine solos. He also recovered a fumble in South Carolina’s opener against Old Dominion that set the stage for what would be the game-winning touchdown.

Texas A&M, meanwhile, was notably missing starting left guard Chase Bisontis last week against LSU. He was seen on the sidelines with a boot on his left foot. And it doesn’t sound like the Aggies will be getting him back this week at South Carolina.

“He was out last week, he’s probably gonna be out for a couple weeks until we get him back,” Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko revealed Monday regarding Bisontis. “And so we’ll kind of see where that one progresses coming out of the bye week.”

Texas A&M also lost starting center Mark Nabou to a season-ending lower-leg injury in the first quarter of A&M’s season opener against Notre Dame. Still, Texas A&M enters Week 10 averaging the ninth-most rushing yards (221.50) in the country this year.
