After earning the nod leaving the spring and entering the fall, LaNorris Sellers has officially been named as the starting quarterback at South Carolina. On3’s Gamecock Central shared the news on Tuesday.

With the selection of Sellers, Robby Ashford and Davis Beville will serve as reserves at the position on the depth chart. Luke Doty may also find himself as an option there too depending on how the Gamecocks plan to utilize him this fall.

Again, Sellers had been in the perceived lead in this battle for some time. He competed with Ashford and Beville during the spring inside what became a much different room over the offseason. After that period, Shane Beamer and OC Dowell Loggains had seen enough at that time with South Carolina naming him as their starter. While the trio continued on through the summer and into the fall, that then never changed again with this announcement today.

Sellers comes into this season as a redshirt freshman for South Carolina. He made three appearances last year as a true freshman as the backup behind Spencer Rattler.

In those opportunities, Sellers completed all four of his pass attempts for 86 yards and a pair of scores. He also rushed five times for 51 yards and an additional touchdown.

Sellers is an in-state native from Florence, which is an hour and a half east of Columbia, who played at South Florence. He joined the Gamecocks as a four-star prospect and the No. 355 overall recruit in the 2023 cycle according to the On3 Industry Ranking. He also rated as the No. 21 QB and the No. 4 prospect from the state.

Sellers is young but clearly has much potential early on in his career. He’ll now get to go from flashing that to putting it on full display now officially as South Carolina’s QB1
