South Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers heads to locker room in game against Kentucky

South Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers headed to the locker room after taking a knock in a game against Kentucky.
Sellers could be seen headed to the locker room with about a minute remaining in the first quarter. Former Auburn transfer Robby Ashford took over for Sellers at quarterback.
The starting quarterback was seen jogging off the field on his own power and did not appear to have a discernible limp.
“He’s got a lower body injury right now,” coach Shane Beamer said on the game’s broadcast after the first quarter ended. “They’re going to go in there and take a look at it and see what he can do. He feels like he can go, they just go in there and take a look at it.”

Shortly after Beamer had noted that, Sellers did, in fact, jog back out to the field.
“I’m told South Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers will return with a right leg injury,” sideline reporter Molly McGrath said. “They stretched and worked out that leg back in the locker room, and we saw him jog back onto the sideline. He was immediately given his helmet.
“He told teammates, ‘I’m good to go.’ He’s been stretching, warming up on the sideline. You can tell he’s eager to get back in the game.”

Prior to his injury, LaNorris Sellers had helped South Carolina get out to an early 7-0 lead against Kentucky.
Sellers was 3-of-4 passing for 55 yards and a touchdown, while he had also added one carry for five yards. His absence would be notable, though the Gamecocks have maintained for a while they’re comfortable with both quarterbacks.
Beamer spoke to that on the broadcast.
“We got a lot of confidence in Robby Ashford. He’s started a lot of games in this conference and I’ve said it all along, we got two winning quarterbacks,” Beamer said. “I love Robby because Robby is a competitor. When we were trying to bring in a quarterback in the offseason form the portal, there were a lot of quarterbacks that wanted to be promised the starting job here. We told them we’d promise the opportunity to compete. A lot of those guys went to other schools, not Robby Ashford. He came here because he’s a freakin competitor. We got a lot of faith in him.”
South Carolina will feel confident about how things in the first frame unfolded.
At the time of this writing, South Carolina led the total yardage battle 89-51 and had picked up some key plays on early downs. Both teams, though, were struggling on third down. Collectively, they were 0-of-8 on third down at the time of this writing.
South Carolina took the lead on a LaNorris Sellers pass to Mazeo Bennett Jr. from 24 yards out.
