Spencer Petras injury update: Breaking news on Utah State QB ahead of game
Utah State will be without their starting quarterback, Spencer Petras, when they play against No. 13 USC on Saturday night. He injured his ankle against Robert Morris in the season opener. Utah transfer Bryson Barnes is expected to start for Utah State, according to Pete Thamel of ESPN.
Barnes led Utah State to a 26-0 eruption in the second half in their win against Robert Morris. 10 of his 11 career starts at Utah came during 2023. He has thrown for 2,223 yards in his career and has 19 total touchdown passes and 479 rushing yards.
The Utah State defense was no match for the USC offensive attack on Saturday night, with the Trojans holding a commanding 41-0 advantage with 10:42 left in the fourth quarter. USC quarterback Miller Moss connected on 21 of his 30 passes for 229 yards, while tossing in one touchdown and no interceptions. The USC ground attack had no problems, rushing for 235 yards and four total touchdowns. The unit was led by Mississippi State transfer Woody Marks, with 13 carries for 103 yards and a touchdown.
More on Spencer Petras and his career
Petras was with the Hawkeyes since 2018, but after not playing for the entire 2023 season while rehabbing a shoulder procedure he underwent last December, he’s with the Aggies as a graduate transfer. The veteran quarterback ended his Iowa career with 5,199 yards, 35 total touchdowns, and 19 interceptions.
