The 2025 On3 150 has been expanded and updated

On3 has updated its 2025 basketball rankings and expanded it out to a full 150 names. This is the third update for this 2025 recruiting cycle. Our first ranking of the 2025 class was in September, before their sophomore seasons. We originally ranked the top 50 players, which expanded to 75 in March of 2023.

Updated 2025 On3 150

With the 2023 recruiting cycle now finalized and 2024 updated in June, our national basketball team has spent the past several weeks diving into film and taking in live viewings from major events like USA Basketball, Nike EYBL, Adidas 3SSB, Under Armour Next, June Scholastic Live Periods, Pangos All-American Camp, NBPA Top 100 Camp, and more to evaluate the top 2025 prospects across the full recruiting landscape. At this point in the cycle, many new prospects are emerging as high-major recruiting targets, with numerous players making their On3 150 debuts in this update.

As player evaluations never stop, over the next few months, we will see several high-profile events, that include Nike’s Peach Jam, Adidas 3SSB and Under Armour NEXT Finale, and three more NCAA live evaluation periods. These viewings will each play a role in future recruiting updates, along with new data points and continued exposure, as we move toward these players’ junior seasons.

On3 heavily prioritized how players finished their high school seasons, looking at their career’s developmental arcs and how their games project forward. We also looked strongly at each player’s performance during the spring travel ball seasons and how they competed against their peers at elite spring camps. Every viewing of a player plays a role in their evaluation, and it is advantageous to get eyes on a player in multiple settings.

On3 basketball rankings

The basketball player rankings scale is as follows: five-star prospects have grades 98-100, four-star recruits have grades 90-97, and three-star recruits have grades 80-89.

The first 8 players in this update are five-stars, players with a rating of 98 or higher. Players ranked No. 9 to 110 are classified as four-stars with grades from 90 to 97. The remainder of the 150 and position rankings are considered three-stars.

Our goal is to assess a prospect’s long-term potential, ultimately manifested by the NBA Draft. The goal of the ranking is not to assess who had the best high school career or who will be the best college player. This is why we will shoot to have 14 five-star prospects following the lead of the NBA Draft Lottery. The vision is draft night.

Here are some of the storylines surrounding the 2025 On3 150 update.

Flagg and Boozer continue the battle for No. 1

As we have mentioned previously, this has the makings to be a conversation throughout the recruiting cycle. Different from the 2024 class, where there is no defined No. 1 player, the 2025 class has multiple guys who could enter the conversation.

In updates past, Cooper Flagg and Cameron Boozer were the two players in the conversation. However, that top tier is on the verge of expanding from two to six. While no one has unseated Flagg or Boozer from the top two spots, SG Darryn Peterson, PF Caleb Wilson, SG Meleek Thomas, and C Jayden Quaintance are knocking on the door of the conversation.

In our initial 2025 On3 50 ranking, Flagg was the No. 1 player. While Boozer was coming off a 15u Peach Jam Championship, where he dominated the division averaging over 20 points and 10 rebounds, Flagg was coming off a 17u gold medal with USA Basketball in the FIBA World Games. As one of the three youngest players on the team, Flagg led them in rebounds, steals, and blocks. With that performance and his solid play throughout the summer with his Maine United team on the same Nike EYBL Circuit, we gave Flagg the nod.

Boozer overtook Flagg in our March update, expanding the 2025 list to 75 names. Boozer’s season at Miami (FL) Columbus High was too much to ignore. The team traveled across the country, played in most high-powered events, and Boozer was ‘that guy’ on every floor he walked on. His high school season culminated in a state championship. Boozer was named Gatorade National Player of the Year as a 15-year-old sophomore.

Since the high school season, the two players have been on a tear. Flagg leading all players who played more than five games on Nike’s EYBL 16u Circuit in scoring (26.9) and is second in rebounding (11.9). Boozer is leading the circuit in rebounds (13.2) and is second in scoring (24.9). Boozer was named MVP of the FIBA Americans u16 Championships, and Flagg the MVP of the NBAP Top 100 Camp.

At the end of the day, looking ahead, Flagg’s current player archetype plays in the NBA. Flagg is the premier perimeter defender in high school basketball, able to shut down ball handlers as well as protect the rim from the weakside. His offensive game is also advancing very well for a playmaking wing. At 6-foot-8, Flagg handles the ball, gets to his spots, and is lethal in the mid-range with his footwork and counters. A look across the NBA landscape and the two-way, play-making wing is having a lot of success.

Darryn Peterson leads the way for new five-stars

Not only did On3’s 2025 rankings list double with this update, it also added a five-star. Three new players made their debuts as five-star prospects at this point in the cycle. Darryn Peterson is a 6-foot-5 shooting guard from Cuyahoga Falls (OH) Cuyahoga Valley Christian. The newly minted five-star averaged 16.8 points on 66.7 percent shooting en route to winning a gold medal with the USA Basketball in the u16 FIBA American Championship this summer.
