Spring live evaluations lead to a 2024 On3 150 update
On3 has updated its 2024 On3 150 basketball rankings. This is the sixth update for this 2024 recruiting cycle and the fourth update with a full expansion to 150 players. Our first ranking of the 2024 class was after their sophomore seasons. We originally ranked the top 50 players, which expanded to 150 in October of 2022.
With the 2023 recruiting cycle now finalized, our national basketball team has spent the past several weeks diving into film and taking in live viewings from major events like USA Basketball, Nike EYBL, Adidas 3SSB, Under Armour Next, and more to evaluate the top 2024 prospects across the full recruiting landscape. Many new players have emerged as high-major recruiting prospects; 19 players make their On3 150 debuts in this update.
As player evaluations never stop, over the next few months, we will see several high-profile events, that include the Pangos All-American Camp, USA Basketball u16 and u19 Championships, NBPA Top 100 Camp, Nike’s Peach Jam, Adidas and Under Armour Finale, and three other NCAA live evaluation periods. These viewings will each play a role in future recruiting updates, along with new data points and continued exposure, as we move toward the player’s senior seasons.
On3 heavily prioritized how players finished their high school seasons, looking at their career’s developmental arcs and how their games project forward. We also looked strongly at each player’s performance during the spring travel ball seasons and how they competed against their peers at elite spring camps. Every viewing of a player plays a role in their evaluation, and it is advantageous to get eyes on a player in multiple settings.
On3 basketball rankings
The basketball player rankings scale is as follows: five-star prospects have grades 98-100, four-star recruits have grades 90-97, and three-star recruits have grades 80-89.
The first 12 players in this update are five-stars, players with a rating of 98 or higher. Players 13 to 110 are classified as four-stars with grades from 90 to 97. The remainder of the 150 and position rankings are considered three-stars.
Our goal is to assess a prospect’s long-term potential, ultimately manifested by the NBA Draft. The goal of the ranking is not to assess who had the best high school career or who will be the best college player. This is why we have chosen to have 14 five-star prospects following the lead of the NBA Draft Lottery. The vision is draft night.
Here are some of the storylines surrounding the 2024 On3 150 update.
Dylan Harper takes over as the new No. 1
Dylan Harper moving to No. 1 is something that has been talked about over the past couple of 2024 class updates. On3 first moved Tre Johnson to the No. 1 position in June of 2022. The industry soon followed. Johnson carried the torch of On3’s No. 1 prospect over the next four class updates. For our March update, Johnson was then No. 1 across all four services.
This move was not made because of anything Johnson did. He scored 29 points in the Texas 4A State Championship game, winning the game and the game’s MVP award. He proceeded to be a standout at the USA Basketball Junior National Team Houston Minicamp and is averaging 18.6 points on 36.3 percent shooting from three for his Houston Hoops team on Nike’s EYBL Circuit.
However, this move had more to do with the continued production of Harper became too hard to ignore. The 6-foot-5 guard is top-15 on the EYBL in scoring (No. 9, 18.9), rebounding (No. 12, 7.1), and assists (No. 3, 5.3). He is shooting 50.4 percent from the field and carries a 2.5 assist-to-turnover ratio through all four sessions.
Harper’s feel for the game is natural. On the ball, he has an array of hesitations and counters off the bounce and is excellent in traffic. He gets his defender on his hip and makes great reads, whether setting up a teammate or finishing in the paint.
Harper, the son of former NBA Champion Ron Harper, is capable of taking over a game as a scorer or as a set-up man. The combination of production, pedigree, size, skill level, and floor vision is currently unrivaled at the top of this class.

Two new five-stars in the update
Aiden Sherrell and Annor Boateng join the 12 five-star players in this cycle update. Sherrell is a 6-foot-11 center who recently announced he would be attending Napa (CA) Prolific Prep for his senior season. Annor Boateng is a 6-foot-5 wing at Little Rock (AR) Central High.
Sherrell has excellent size with a natural skill set that includes touch, length, and ball skills. At 6-11, he can push the break off the rebounds, face up and put the ball on the floor for two or three dribbles toward the rim in the half-court, or knock down the three with his feet set. He will need to continue working on his consistency, but the physical tools and skills are too much to ignore at this point.
The first thing you notice about Boateng is his physical tools. He has a strong frame with long arms and good athleticism. Boateng has been a noted connective piece, but he has shown this Spring, playing on both the EYBL and 3SSB Circuits, that he can be a go-to option. He has averaged 18.7 points and shot 36 percent from three in his Spring circuit events.
Nic Codie headlines seven newcomers into the Top 100
Nic Codie is a 6-foot-8 forward who carries a 7-foot-2 wing span. That frame naturally intrigues when attached to a 16-year-old. He is also the son of former Pittsburgh Steeler safety Nakia Codie. The No. 39 player in the 2024 On3 150 update is excellent in the paint with a quick release off the catch. He can also knock down threes and affect the play on the defensive end. The upside here is very intriguing.
Six other players made their On3 debuts this cycle in the top 100.
No. 39 F Nic Codie, Newman Smith (TX)
No. 61 SG Mikey Lewis, Accelerated Prep (CO)
No. 81 C Pape Ndiaye, Trinity International (NV)
No. 88 PF Matthew Gilhool, Long Island Lutheran (NY)
No. 91 SF Caden Diggs, Bullis School (MD)
No. 97 SF Andrew Crawford, ThunderRidge High (CO)
No. 99 F Dillon Battie, Lancaster High (TX)
UNC and Iowa State lead the way with three On3 150 commits
Even after having five-star Elliot Cadeau re-classify into the 2023 class, UNC’s top-ranked 2024 class still has three players ranking among the top 100 recruits in the updated 2024 On3 150. SG Ian Jackson (Cardinal Hayes/NY) leads the way at No. 6. SF Drake Powell (Northwood High/NC) comes in at No. 42, and C James Brown (Link Academy/MO) at No. 74.
Iowa State has also made its presence known early in this class with three players from the On3 150 already in tow. C JT Rock (Lincoln High/SD) is the highest-ranked player in the Cyclone’s class at No. 78. He is followed by No. 90 SG Nojus Indrusaitis (St. Rita/IL) and No. 109 SF Dwayne Pierce (Christ the King/NY)
Baylor, Arizona, Duke, Michigan State, Syracuse, Georgetown, Purdue, and Texas A&M all have two players committed in the updated 2024 On3 150.
