St. John's wing Chris Ledlum enters NCAA transfer portal
St. John’s wing Chris Ledlum has entered the NCAA transfer portal. It will be his second transfer in as many seasons after he originally began his college career at Harvard.
Ledlum started in 30 of the 31 games he played in for the Red Storm this past season. He averaged 9.5 points, 6.9 rebounds, 1.4 steals and 1.2 blocks per game while shooting 42.7% from the floor.
The 6-foot-6 forward originally decided to transfer to Tennessee last offseason and was prepared to spend the summer practicing with the Vols. However, he re-entered the portal in July before committing to St. John’s.
The situation regarding Ledlum’s eligibility for the 2024-25 season is still unclear. He began playing college basketball in the 2019-20 season, which should not count against him as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Ivy League also cancelled its 2020-21 season due to the pandemic.
It would follow from that Ledlum did not begin to use up his eligibility until his third year of college in the 2021-22 season. NCAA denied both him and his St. John’s teammate Jordan Dingle fifth season, leading to both players filing a lawsuit.
We’ll have to wait and see what comes of that, but for now Ledlum would not be eligible. He has entered the 2024 NBA Draft and will have until May 29 to withdraw his name should something change.
Ledlum earned first team All-Ivy League honors during his final year at Harvard in 2022-23. He averaged 18.8 points, 8.5 rebounds and 1.8 steals per game while shooting 47.3%.

Ledlum played two seasons St. Peter’s Boys High School in Staten Island, New York before wrapping up his senior season at Northfield Mount Vernon High School in Massachusetts. He was named the Gatorade Massachusetts Player of the Year in 2019 as he led his team to a state championship.
St. John’s is coming off of a 20-13 finish this past season in its first year under Rick Pitino. However, the Red Storm are set to lose their top three scorers if Dingle is not deemed eligible for the upcoming season.
Former North Texas forward Aaron Scott and USC forward Vincent Iwuchukwu are the only two additions St. John’s has made through the portal so far this offseason.
