Star junior RB Dylan Edwards named Kansas Gatorade Player of Year
Derby, Kan., running back Dylan Edwards was honored for his incredible junior season with the 2021 Kansas Gatorade Player of the Year award.
Edwards, who is 5-foot-7 and 160 pounds, was announced as the winner on Tuesday. It caps off a season that saw Edwards rush for 2,603 yards, 40 touchdowns, and rack up more than 3,214 all-purpose yards.
Edwards also averaged 221 yards a game and 13 yards a carry. He was a key reason why Derby made it to the Kansas Class 6A state championship game.
Dylan Edwards is one of the most coveted offensive players and top junior recruits in the Sunflower State.
He is a K-State legacy, as his father Leon Edwards played for Bill Snyder from 1992-1994. He is a coveted prospect for the Wildcats. So, it’s no surprise K-State is pulling out all the stops to land him.

The same is true for K-State football alumni.
Earlier this season, Kansas City Chiefs receiver Byron Pringle did what he could to encourage Edwards to pick purple.
Kansas State isn’t the only school heavily pursuing Dylan Edwards. He has 12 scholarship offers: K-State, Wisconsin, Kentucky, Minnesota, West Virginia, Michigan State, Memphis, Iowa State, Kansas, Arizona, North Texas and Tennessee Tech. Notre Dame, Nebraska and TCU are schools he’s also getting heavy attention from.
Dylan Edwards has taken a number of unofficial visits since this summer, but he’s spent the most time in Manhattan. He was on campus twice this past summer and has already been to two K-State games. Edwards was on an unofficial visit earlier this fall to Nebraska. But most assume K-State is the team to beat for him, especially with his family connection and strong bond with his father.
