Status of quarterback Matt Corral in doubt for Ole Miss vs. LSU
Matt Corral appears to be a little bit dinged up coming out of Ole Miss’ victory over Tennessee. Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin said that Corral is “not in good shape” coming out of Week 7. Kiffin also reportedly does not feel good about Corral playing on Saturday against LSU, according to The Oxford Eagle’s Jake Thompson.
“Hopefully he plays,” Kiffin said via Thompson.
Kiffin’s concern about Corral is a big story to watch ahead of Ole Miss vs. LSU
Against Tennessee, Corral completed 21 of his 38 pass attempts for 231 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. He also had a historic night on the ground, rushing 30 times for 195 yards. In doing so, Corral became the first Ole Miss player to rush 30 times in a single game since 2007. His 195 rushing yards was a career high.
The Ole Miss offense totaled 510 yards, 279 of which came on the ground. Ole Miss also had 101 plays from scrimmage as opposed to 79 for Tennessee. Corral’s strong performance resulted in him being named one of the SEC’s two Offensive Players of the Week.
Corral is one of the leading contenders to win the Heisman Trophy. On the season, Corral has completed 66.3 percent of his passes for 1,728 yards, 14 touchdowns, and one interception. He also has 450 rushing yards and eight scores on 88 carries. Coming out of Week 7, Corral is tied with Alabama quarterback Bryce Young as the favorites to win the Heisman.

Corral is in his fourth season at Ole Miss. Through his collegiate career, Corral has completed 66.8 percent of his passes for 6,666 yards, 51 touchdowns, and 19 interceptions. He also has 270 rushing attempts for 1,174 yards and 15 touchdowns.
If Kiffin and Ole Miss do have to play LSU without Corral, it will be a tough challenge. LSU defeated Florida in Week 7, but the Tigers could be distracted as the school announced it and coach Ed Orgeron are parting ways at the end of the season.
