With how Texas’ opener against Colorado State could go on the scoreboard, it could provide a solid opportunity to get in live reps for QB Arch Manning. However, Steve Sarkisian isn’t committing to that just yet.

During his press conference on Monday, Sarkisian answered a question about potentially playing Manning during the Longhorns’ first game this weekend. As for getting a chance to play him in the first half against the Rams, he said we’ll all just have to wait and see.

“We’ll find out,” said Sarkisian.

With that, Sark credited the reporter for finding a way to get that thought in about their highly-touted and well-known backup quarterback.

“It was a nice slide to try to slide that in there,” Sarkisian smiled.

This also played into another answer from Sarkisian about his desire for as many players from their roster to see the field this weekend against CSU.

“For me, the biggest thing that I’m looking for now more than ever is our ability to play a lot of players, especially in the first half of this game,” Sarkisian said. “We have a two-deep when in reality our ones are our twos and our twos are our ones. Getting all those guys involved in the game and seeing the comfort level maybe of some of our younger players then getting them more comfortable as the game goes on, I think, is important for us as well.”

Manning will almost certainly start his redshirt freshman season as the second quarterback on Texas’ two-deep behind Quinn Ewers. The release of that will come at some point this week with InsideTexas releasing a projection for it earlier today.

Manning saw the field in a pair of games last fall as a true freshman in Austin in the regular-season finale and in the Big Ten Championship. In those chances, he completed two of his five attempts for 30 yards.

This comes after Manning was a Five-Star+ prospect in 2023 as the No. 1 overall recruit and the No. 1 QB.

The 40 Acres are ready to see as much Manning as they can get, especially in a matchup that they could win handily on Saturday afternoon. Even so, Sarkisian didn’t say they’d certainly be playing him in the opening game yet with them needing to see how it goes first come kickoff.
