Texas and Steve Sarkisian found the right balance on offense to run by Michigan 31-12 Saturday in Ann Arbor.

While the Longhorns’ defense did a great job limited the Wolverines to just two field goals before a late, garbage time score, the offense had a great blend of running and passing. Quinn Ewers led the charge and the running backs combined for 143 yards on the ground.

As Sarkisian put it, it was critical for the Longhorns Saturday.

“Well, that’s critical for us as a team, right,” Sarkisian said on the FOX broadcast to Jenny Taft. “When we can run it, throw it, screen, it, RPO, all the things that we like to do, we can find balance and we’re usually doing alright.

“Well, I liked our poise and composure, we knew that was going to be needed today. That’s a really good team. They’re a really physical team. I thought we handled the environment early on and found our rhythm.”

Ewers finished the game 24-of-36 passing for 246 yards and three touchdowns. On the ground, Ryan Wingo led the way with 55 yards on just one carry.

But the balance, as Sarkisian alluded to, was there. Jerrick Gibson had 10 carries for 36 yards and a touchdown and Quintrevion Wisner had eight carries for 30 yards.

Jaydon Blue had a touchdown reception after he returned from an injury in the first quarter.

Going into the game, Sarkisian explained what Texas had to do. This coach might as well be an oracle.

“I think we’ve got to have great poise and composure today,” Sarkisian told Pat McAfee on ESPN’s College GameDay. “You get in these environments like this, the thing that can hurt you the most is a self-inflicted wound. And so we’ve got to have great poise, great composure, especially on the offensive side of the ball at the line of scrimmage.

“We like to shift, we like to motion. We’re still going to do those things, so that’s important. We really built a program on toughness and on speed, and we need those two factors to show up today. We’ve got to play a tough brand of football today, and our speed has got to show up today.”
