Steve Sarkisian previews Michigan game for Texas after beating Colorado State
Texas enjoyed a relatively smooth season opener against Colorado State, walking off the field with a 52-0 win. A great start to the year for head coach Steve Sarkisian, one filled with a lot of expectations. Next Saturday will present one of the toughest tests of the year, heading to Ann Arbor to face off against Michigan.
Sarkisian does not appear to be following the 24-hour rule, talking about Texas facing Michigan during his postgame interview. He admits his team will need to play better, especially with the jump in talent across from them. After all, Michigan is just a few months removed from hoisting the College Football Playoff trophy.
“Well, we got to play better than we did today,” Sarkisian said following the game on ESPN. “It’s another opportunity, a great challenge. They’re the national champs, on the road. So, we got to play good football.”

Maybe some harsh criticism from Sarkisian after his team dominated against Colorado State. The Texas offense seemed to be a cruise control the entire game — with both Quinn Ewers and Arch Manning running the show at different times.
The defense earned a shutout too, the program’s first since the 2022 Oklahoma game in Dallas. It was certainly a performance you would imagine Texas would have taken heading into the week.

Even so, Sarkisian is hoping to see some improvements going forward. After all, the competition level is going to make a major jump when stepping on the field with Michigan.
At the time of Sarkisian’s interview, Michigan had not kicked off their season. Fresno State is at the Big House, with the game scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET. Maybe there will be an opportunity for Sarkisian to sit and watch the game, getting a scouting report on his next opponent.
The entire college football world will be watching, being the biggest matchup of the weekend. Both FOX Big Noon Saturday and ESPN College GameDay will be in town, previewing the game. Kickoff is scheduled for noon ET for what could be an instant classic.
Even if Texas and Michigan were not playing great football, the brand carry enough weight. Having the duo at high levels heading into the game only adds to the intensity.
