Steve Spurrier picks Texas A&M to upset Texas
The SEC has been turned on its head more than once over the past few weeks — and Steve Spurrier has predicted it to happen again during the final week of the regular season.
When picking the highly-anticipated matchup between Texas and Texas A&M during Week 14, the Ole Ball Coach revealed that he’s picking the Aggies to pull off the upset in College Station.
“I’m going to go for the upset — A&M. 110,000 [fans], it’s one of the biggest ballparks in the country,” Spurrier said during Another Dooley Noted Podcast. “And now they’re screaming and yelling. Jimbo [Fisher], couldn’t get them screaming, they’re doing it now. So, it’s, it’s home field advantage A&M, so I’m sort of taking A&M with it.”
An Aggie victory would futher shake up the SEC Championship, and in-turn the College Football Playoff races entirely as the Longhorns are the only one-loss team left in the conference.
Early betting lines in Vegas disagree with Spurrier, however. Texas is a touchdown favorite over the Aggies inside Kyle Field entering game week.

Given that the Aggies are coming off a tough road loss to Auburn in four overtimes during Week 13, many see the Longhorns as favorites in the season finale. Especially given that a Texas win would send the Longhorns to the SEC Championship, effectively guaranteeing their spot in the College Football Playoff.
Their path gets a bit more uncertain if Spurrier’s prediction comes true.
To Spurrier’s point, however, College Station provides one of the most hostile environments for teams step into. With over 100,000 fans on hand wanting nothing more than to ruin Texas’ season — the Aggies don’t see their home field as a final stop on the Longhorns’ way to Atlanta.
Add in the rivalry factor, and the game becomes even more of a toss up. This is the first meeting between Texas A&M and Texas since the Aggies moved to the SEC after the 2011 season. Dubbed the ‘Lone Star Showdown,’ the Longhorns own a 76-37-5 lead in the all-time series.
Kickoff is set for Saturday night 7:30 p.m. ET live on ABC.
