Styles Phipps: '24 putting up big numbers, TCU and Auburn taking notice
Phoenix (AZ) St. Mary’s High sophomore Styles Phipps has become an interesting prospect in the 2024 class. He matched up against Alpharetta (GA) Milton High’s tough backcourt; Phipps finished with 23 points with six rebounds, four assists, and two steals.
“Winning is big to me,” Phipps told On3 Sports. But, I would say what I do best is score the ball. I’ve gotten stronger since the summer, being able to dribble past guys getting my speed up. I like Devin Booker Demar DeRozan, how hard they play. DeRozan gets after it on defense too, he plays hard on both ends.”
The 6-foot-2 guard has been scoring in this way all year, averaging 26 points per game. Coaches have taken notice as well. Styles Phipps spoke exclusively with On3 Sports about his recruitment.
“I have offers from TCU, Auburn, Western Illinois, Hampton, UC Santa Barbara,” Phipps said.
Phipps talks recruitment
TCU: “They feel like I am a good fit for how they play. I just watched them today, and they knocked off a top 25 team in LSU. They think I will be able to help them keep improving.”

Auburn: “Coach (Wes) Flannigan watched me play a couple of weeks ago. We talked after the game, and he reiterated how much he likes my game, and they offered me.”
Phipps’ take
“I haven’t been on any visits yet, but I know I am going to get to see Auburn when I get the chance,” Phipps said. “Cal and Arizona State have both been looking pretty close, a few other PAC-12 schools as well. I want to play for a coach who shows he wants me. I’ll be looking for a program that will allow me to play freely and play my game.”
On3’s take
Styles Phipps is a tough-minded and confident lead guard. He has a crafty handle, able to get to his spots with outstanding balance and vision. He can pull up on a dime for his jump shot, which is an option anywhere in the half-court. Phipps will need to reel in the shot selection some, but you appreciate his aggressiveness.
