On Friday, we began with 64 teams in the NCAA Tournament. Everyone in the field was experiencing a fresh state in the postseason, hoping the journey to Omaha was getting underway. Flash forward to Monday and just 16 remain as the Super Regional matchups are set.

In what has been a tournament full of upsets, only three Super Regionals will have national seeds facing off against one another. The likes of Auburn and Oklahoma State were surprise early exits, both going 0-2 as hosts. In total, there are eight national seeds who have advanced out of their home regional

Unsurprisingly, the SEC does have the most conference representatives remaining. Six teams remain and four will face off against each other. Nothing new for those in the SEC, going up against some of the best teams in the country on a weekly basis.

Indiana State advances as national seed, will not host

Every single year, there are issues with hosting sites. Especially when a national seed is not involved, the NCAA has to make a few tough decisions. That’s not different this year, with three matchups needing a home.

However, Indiana State is the reverse case this year. Despite being ranked No. 14 by the selection committee, the Sycamores will not get to host TCU. They will instead be heading to Fort Worth with a trip to Omaha on the line. Logistical issues in the surrounding area, mainly the lack of hotel rooms, caused the switch.

Multiple conference rivals to face off against each other

Conferences are always attempting to get as many teams in the College World Series as possible, showing off their strength. Unfortunately for the SEC and ACC, they will be taking out their own this coming weekend.

Florida will face off against SEC East rival South Carolina, while LSU will host Kentucky for the second three-game series in Baton Rouge of the season. Moving over to the ACC where Virginia and Duke are the conference’s final two teams standing in the tournament.

A fun slate of matchups is on deck, with a ton on the line. Teams facing off against conference foes will feel as if there is more at stake though, not wanting the opponent to have bragging rights for the next 365 days.
