Syracuse and Pitt will play their ACC conference matchup at Yankee Stadium on Nov. 11, 2023 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the first college football game at the House That Ruth Built.

The Orange and Panthers played in that first game on Oct. 20, 1923.

“This game is 100 years in the making and will celebrate a milestone anniversary in a historic venue,” Syracuse athletic director John Wildhack said in a statement. “The unique circumstance of a centennial anniversary, coupled with six strong opponents scheduled to visit the JMA Wireless Dome, will make this year’s home schedule an impactful experience for our student-athletes and continue a longstanding partnership with the Yankees organization. I look forward to our fans giving us a tremendous home field advantage in Yankee Stadium, just as they have in all our previous trips.”

Syracuse is 7-3 in its previous 10 trips to the old and new Yankee Stadium. Pitt has played in the Hallowed Grounds of Bronx, N.Y., three times.

Syracuse beat Pitt in first-ever football game at Yankee Stadium

Over 200 college football games have played at Yankee Stadium, but Syracuse beat Pitt in the first game, 3-0.

After over two decades of no college football games at the old Yankee Stadium, new Yankee opened in 2009 with plans for the Pinstripe Bowl to begin play 2010. During the 2010 regular season, Notre Dame and Army also played at Yankee Stadium.

The Pinstripe Bowl has been held every year except 2020 since that first game in 2010. They’ve also hosted other regular season games during the past decade. These games include the legendary rivalry between Lehigh and Lafayette; the Cotuca Jug Game between DIII’s foes Ithaca College and SUNY Cortland; and a game between Dartmouth and Princeton to celebrate the 150th anniversary of college football.
