Taurean York on Texas A&M rivalry with Texas: 'It's that personal to me'
Taurean York didn’t want to have anything to do with Texas when he spoke at Thursday’s SEC Media Days.
The Texas A&M linebacker called it a “personal” rivalry when asked about the school. The Longhorns and Aggies can go at it again on the field now that Texas moved from the Big 12 to the SEC beginning this season, in case you didn’t hear!
But York kept his feelings glued to his chest and only called it “personal.”
“It’s personal, that’s all I have to say, it’s personal,” York said, via CJ Vogel. “I don’t talk to anybody from Texas because it’s that personal to me. They didn’t recruit me and there’s a lot of comparisons going on about me and Texas players in a sense. So I kinda put those rest in a sense.”
York could’ve been underrecruited as a three-star prospect but he outwardly said the Longhorns did not want him. Safe to say, he won’t be talking much about them in the future.
As a freshman, York appeared in all 13 games for the Aggies last season, finishing with 74 total tackles, 39 solo tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, three sacks and one forced fumble.

As a member of the Class of 2023, York was a three-star recruit out of Temple (Texas) High, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He was the No. 142 overall prospect in the state, the No. 84 linebacker in the class and the No. 841 overall prospect in the class.
Fresh off a breakout campaign, York was named captain going into the 2024 season. It looks like his coaches and teammates think very highly of him as a sophomore.
“It means the world that my teammates think that I’m capable of leading them, of course, and granted my age and going into my sophomore year, I am still considered young and an underclassman, but happy that they chose me to lead them throughout the difficulties of the season,” York said.
As far as playing as a freshman, York had advice for those following his path.
“Continue to make strides each and every day regardless of your situation,” York said. “Be diligent in your work. Definitely know the playbook, know the inside and out. Know all the checks and communications, the adjustments you have to make. Just be ready whenever your opportunity is presented.”
