More on TCU vs. Texas

Following the firing of head coach Chris Beard amid his legal troubles, Texas won its first game post-Beard with a 56-46 win over Oklahoma State on the road.

The Longhorns were stout defensively but only had two players score in the double digits. Marcus Carr had 12 points, one rebound and four assists while Timmy Allen had 11 points, six rebounds and two assists.

On the flipside, TCU lost 69-67 after getting outscored by seven in the second half against Iowa State. Mike Miles led the way in scoring for the Horned Frogs with 18 points, two rebounds and one assist while Damion Baugh had 17 points, seven rebounds and five assists.

Texas was rolling this season but dropped from No. 6 to No. 10 in the latest AP Poll earlier this week following a loss to Kansas State at home. However, that was only the second loss for the Longhorns in 2022-23 and they’re favored to bounce back against an in-state foe.

To climb back up the rankings, Texas has plenty of opportunities.

Texas already beat one team this season currently ranked in the latest poll. That is No. 8 Gonzaga (12-3). Those remaining on the schedule ranked in the Top 25 are No. 2 Kansas (twice), No. 17 TCU (twice), and No. 14 Iowa State (twice), and one more bout with No. 11 Kansas State in Manhattan.
