Madison (Miss.) Madison Central three-star tight end Micah Jones took an official visit to Mississippi State last weekend. That official was likely his last trip as an uncommitted prospect.

Jones will be announcing his college destination on June 21. The 6-foot-4, 250-pound recruit is choosing between Arkansas, Florida, LSU, Mississippi State and Ole Miss.

“Most of my offers were from schools in the SEC,” Jones told On3. “I took pretty much all of my visits to SEC schools. As a kid growing up, everybody wants to play in the SEC.”

Jones is excited to select one of his finalists, as he believes the SEC is the top conference in college football. He added that suiting up for one of its schools gives a player “a great opportunity” to be successful in the NFL.

Multiple factors will be significant in where Jones decides to play college football

In addition to Mississippi State, Florida hosted Jones for an official visit from May 31-June 2. He also took an unofficial visit to Ole Miss on March 30.

While Jones’ recruitment was stressful at points, the process gradually got calmer for the No. 11 player in Mississippi. He is excited to reveal where he is playing college football around his family, who helped him privately make his final decision in May. That discussion helped Jones realize what school checked his boxes the best and made him feel at home on campus.

“The biggest things that matter to me in my recruitment are the culture and the school,” said Jones, On3’s No. 27 tight end in the 2025 cycle. “I have to like the school that I’m going to. Relationships with the coaches are really big for me too and knowing that I am going to be around good people every day. How often a school uses the tight end and how a staff develops a tight end for the next level is also significant.”

Jones talks three of his finalists

Florida: “It was a really good experience,” Jones told Gators Online on June 2 about his official visit to Gainesville. “I got to see the facilities one more time, talk to some of the players and it was a really good experience. I loved being here.”

“It’s a good relationship down here,” he added. “There are good people and it’s a place I would like to be at.”

Mississippi State: “I know coach Jeff Lebby uses the tight ends in his offense,” Jones told Maroon and White on April 19. “He is coming with a more explosive offense than the last couple of years. They said they want to use the tight ends differently than Mississippi State used them before. They want their tight ends more involved in the passing game this year.”

Ole Miss: “The visit was great,” Jones told OM Spirit on Feb. 4 about his visit to Oxford the day before. “We talked to some of the players and I talked to coach Lane Kiffin. We broke down film and then went to the basketball game.”
