Tempers flair between Mississippi State, Tennessee as umpires step in
The SEC Tournament isn’t always a friendly affair. During Tennessee and Mississippi State’s matchup on Friday evening, the two teams collided during a Tennessee pitching change.
While no punches were thrown, there was no shortage of words exchanged. The incident began when Mississippi State players leaned over their dugout during the short break and shouted toward the Tennessee players on the mound.

Tennessee junior Christian Moore took exception and started toward Mississippi State’s dugout. The Bulldogs didn’t back down, meeting Moore on the field. In only moments, the two teams were nose-to-nose with a lone umpire separating them.
The short scuffle did not lead to any ejections but it certainly added an extra layer of tension to the already heated showdown. Mississippi State scored all five of its runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to secure a 5-3 lead.
The winner between Tennessee and Mississippi State will advance to the SEC Tournament semifinals on Friday, where Vanderbilt waits. The game will be broadcast on the SEC Network.
