The early signing period window opened on November 8 and it closed on November 15. This is the time frame where prospects in the 2024 class were able to sign their National Letters of Intent to the program they committed to. Typically there is not much action during the early signing period as much of the recruitment process is over, and decisions have been made. This year, however, it was different. Players changed their commitments, they canceled visits, and ultimately ten players among the top 100 in the 2024 On3 Industry Ranking did not make a public commitment during the early signing period.

There is a chance that players signed with a program and that was not made public. It also could be a possibility that a player silently committed to a school, and did not sign. There are a lot of variables that could have happened during the early signing period, and, if so, information will continue to come out over the next couple of days and weeks. This could also be pretty straightforward and transparent, with all the information already public.

Let’s discuss the ten players who are ranked among the top 100 in the 2024 On3 Industry Ranking that did not make a public commitment prior to the end of the early signing period.

Five-Star Plus+ CG Dylan Harper

The Buzz: The early signing period came and went, and Dylan Harper, the No. 2 player in the 2024 On3 150, has not made a public commitment. Harper told me the last time we spoke with him that there was a good chance he would wait until the late period. Rutgers and Duke are the two schools talked about the most. Harper also visited Indiana and had Auburn and Kansas in his top five.

Five-Star Plus+ SG VJ Edgecombe

The Buzz: The thought of VJ Edgecombe waiting until the late period was always there. I was told a couple of months ago by someone close to the recruitment that they expected this to happen. Despite the buzz around Edgecombe and a possible decision during the early signing period, he did not make a public commitment. Edgecombe took five official visits, Baylor, Florida, Kentucky, Duke, and St. John’s. We have heard the G-League Ignite also mentioned with Edgecombe.

Five-Star Plus+ SF Derrion Reid

The Buzz: Derrion Reid’s recruitment took a few twists and turns late in the process. There was a point where the Grovetown, Georgia native was all but wrapped up to Alabama, and then to Georgia, and then he postponed his October 28 commitment date. What we do know at this point is that Reid has not made a public commitment and that Florida State, Alabama, and Georgia are the schools he listed as his top three.

Five-Star SF Karter Knox

The Buzz: Karter Knox, the younger brother of NBA forward Kevin Knox, has a final group that includes Louisville, Kentucky, USF, and the G-League Ignite. Knox’s brother, Kobe Knox, is currently a starter at USF. His other brother, Kevin, played for John Calipari at Kentucky. Kevin was recruited by Kenny Payne, the Louisville head coach, to Kentucky. Knox first told On3 he would be waiting until the late signing period a few months ago, and that held true.

Four-Star PF Derik Queen

The Buzz: Houston, Kansas, Indiana, and Maryland were the final group for Derik Queen. Indiana and Maryland were the two programs that had the most momentum as we approached the Early Signing Period. However, he has not yet made a public commitment. Queen led Montverde (FL) Academy in rebounding last season and was their second-leading scorer. Let’s see how things reset here.

Four-Star SF Bryson Tucker

The Buzz: The plan all along was for Bryson Tucker to sign late. In each conversation I had with him, he said as much. Tucker took a couple of late visits, the public one was Kansas, which caused a bit of a stir, especially with talk of early enrollment possibilities. But Tucker has not made a public commitment. Things have been consistently quiet around this recruitment. There has also been talk about the G-League Ignite program, and other pro route possibilities with Tucker.

Four-Star SF Billy Richmond

The Buzz: Memphis and Kentucky have been the two schools with momentum around Billy Richmond for quite some time. Along with those two schools, he also took visits to LSU and Alabama. There was some late momentum of Richmond possibly signing during the early period, but a public commitment never came.

Four-Star PG Zoom Diallo

The Buzz: The last time I spoke with Zoom Diallo, he said he would be signing early. That public commitment never came. Washington made a late push, and Arizona, USC, and Gonzaga all got visits. There was also some talk about Alabama, but a visit never happened. This one will be interesting to continue monitoring and see which direction the reset takes him.

Four-Star SF Darrion Sutton

The Buzz: Darrion Sutton picked up a lot of momentum during the summer, jumping all the way to No. 84 in the 2024 On3 150. The Atlanta (GA) Overtime Elite forward took official visits to Michigan, Creighton, and Georgia Tech. There was not a lot of buzz around his recruitment, and he never came out with a top group, so it will be interesting to monitor how things move forward from here.

Four-Star C Makhan Diouf

The Buzz: On the recruiting side, things have remained somewhat quiet with Makhan Diouf. The 6-foot-10 big man claims offers from programs like UCLA, USC, Arizona State, and others. However, we have not heard of any official visits yet from the Scottsdale (AZ) Bella Vista Prep post prospect.
