(Saul Young/News Sentinel / USA TODAY NETWORK) Tennessee wide receiver Nathan Leacock (85) walks onto the field for warm ups before the start of the NCAA college football game between Tennessee and Georgia on Saturday, November 18, 2023 in Knoxville, Tenn.

Former Tennessee wide receiver Nathan Leacock has committed to Purdue out of the NCAA transfer portal, On3 has learned.

Leacock appeared in five games for the Vols this season. He finished the year with one catch for 13 yards.

Leacock is a former four-star recruit who signed with Tennessee after being ranked as the No. 12 wide receiver and No. 75 overall player in the country in the class of 2023, per the On3 Industry Rankings.

He originally chose Tennessee over offers from NC State, North Carolina and others. Prior to signing with Tennessee, Leacock attended Millbrook High School in Raleigh, North Carolina. As a senior in high school, Leacock caught 82 passes for 1,703 receiving yards and 23 touchdowns.

He entered the NCAA transfer portal on Dec. 12, which was before the Volunteers played in the College Football Playoff.

The portal officially opened on Monday, Dec. 9, 2024. More than 2,800 FBS scholarship players entered their names into the NCAA’s transfer database during the 2023-24 school year. Removing those who withdrew or went pro, the final total sat at 2,707 transfers. That means roughly 25 percent of all FBS scholarship players hit free agency in one year, per On3’s Pete Nakos.

Tennessee transfer LB Kalib Perry signs with Louisville

Former linebacker Kalib Perry recently signed to play for Louisville out of the NCAA transfer portal. Perry spent the past three seasons at Tennessee. He made 37 appearances while on Rocky Top.

In those games with the Vols, Perry posted 61 tackles and a forced fumble. That includes a career-best season this fall as a junior with 26 tackles and that turnover.

Perry, a native of Georgetown an hour and a half outside of Louisville, played high school football at Great Crossing. He was the No. 793 overall prospect there as a three-star in the 2022 cycle. He was also rated as a Top-100 LB and the No. 6 player out of the state of Kentucky. That’s according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
