Texas A&M gets off to a great start on Signing Day by adding elite TE Jake Johnson
Texas A&M is expected to sign a historic class this cycle, and one player most did not expect to be in it a few days ago was Jake Johnson.
The 6-foot-5, 225-pound four-star tight end out of Bogart (Ga.) Oconee County was a longtime LSU commitment before reopening his recruitment on December 7.
Johnson quietly explored his options and the No. 69 prospect in the On3 Consensus and has committed to Aggies.
“It has been a crazy journey, but I am excited about going to Texas A&M,” Johnson said. “I did some homework, I did a virtual visit with them, and it is a great school.
“It is a relief to have the recruiting process behind me and I am ready to go to work at Texas A&M.”

Despite never visiting College Station, Johnson feels good about the decision and he is very familiar with head coach Jimbo Fisher. He is excited about the opportunity to play for him and in his offense.
“When he was at Florida State, he recruited me and my brother (Max Johnson), so I know coach Fisher. I attended a camp at Florida State, so I worked with him then, we have talked, and he is a great coach.
“He knows how to win, he develops players, and he is an awesome play-caller. Texas A&M has really used the tight end well since he has been there, so I am excited about the opportunity.
“Texas A&M has a great class coming in and I know we are going to compete and have a chance to win a lot.”
