Texas A&M nabs commitment from On300 OL T.J. Shanahan
One of the nation’s most sought-after linemen has found a home.
After a return to College Station over the weekend for the Week 1 win over Sam Houston State, four-star Austin (Texas) Westlake mauler T.J. Shanahan Jr. committed to Texas A&M on Wednesday. Georgia and LSU were other finalists for the On3 Consensus’ No. 7-rated interior offensive lineman in the 2023 recruiting cycle.
Jimbo Fisher has been courting Shanahan before and since the four-star lineman made the move from Florida over to Texas. Since relocating to the capital, the Aggies have been trending positively with Shanahan — even more so after the arrival of new offensive line coach Steve Addazio.
“I just love Texas A&M,” Shanahan told On3. “Everything about College Station intrigues me. Coach Fisher and Coach Addazio are two of the best coaches in the nation and playing for guys like that is going to be real special.”
Shanahan has been frequenting Texas A&M for months since arriving to the Lone Star State, including an official visit on June 17. He was previously in College Station in January and then again in March growing more and more comfortable with the surroundings, the coaches and the culture in place.
“Texas A&M has the most upside out of any other program and it’s clear with the guys they got now and the guys that are coming in, A&M will win at least two national championships in the next four or five years … believe it.”
Aggies won over Shanahan and family
Shanahan has been a regular at Texas A&M since joining powerhouse Austin Westlake ahead of his junior year.

Since then, he and his family have seen schools coast to coast. From USC to Miami and other stops at Georgia and LSU, only Texas A&M consistently pulled in The Shanahans.
“Coach Fisher made me a priority,” Shanahan detailed. “From spending so much time with my family and I on my official visit to the phone calls we have weekly, he’s been nothing short of a great recruiter and I can’t be any more excited to be in College Station in January.”
“A&M has a good fan base and Kyle Field — there’s nothing like that for sure — and the Alabama game last season was surreal,” he added. “That’s the type of atmosphere I’d like to play in.”
Shanahan is tabbed as the nation’s No. 117 overall player in the country according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is the No. 21 overall player in Texas — now staying in-state to play for Fisher’s Aggies.
