Denton (Texas) Guyer safety Peyton Bowen has long been of the highest regarded defensive backs in the country, but today he picked up even more credentials.

After industry updates, Bowen has ascended into five-star status in the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He checks in as the country’s No. 24 overall prospect, No. 2 safety and the No. 4 player in the state of Texas.

On3’s rankings remain slightly higher on him than the other recruiting services, tabbing him as the No. 18 prospect nationally and No. 2 player in Texas.

Bowen is currently committed to Notre Dame, but Texas A&M and Oklahoma are fighting to flip him away from the Irish. He visited both College Station and Norman in late July and it is looking very possible he could make a decision to stay closer to home for his future. Bowen spoke about Texas A&M in his recruitment with me and when a final decision could come. Texas A&M currently holds commitments from three top-100 defenders from Texas and is hoping to add Bowen to the mix.

Peyton Bowen Scouting Summary

On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings Charles Power writes this about Bowen as a recruit:

“Athletic safety who stars for one of the best high school defenses in the state of Texas. Pairs solid size with some of the better combine athleticism we’ve seen among 2023 safeties.Carries over the twitchy athleticism onto the field. Is a dynamic return man, taking several kicks to the house as a junior. Plays with outstanding range, showing the ability to cover from the hash to the boundary with ease.

…Has awareness in coverage to recognize route combinations. Shows ball skills in deep coverage in addition to playing sparingly on offense in key spots. Stood out in the state championship game as a junior, making a number of explosive plays with the ball in his hands. Projects as one of the best defensive backs in the state of Texas in the 2023 cycle.”
