Texas Tech wide receiver Micah Hudson does a drill during football practice, Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2024, at the Sports Performance Center.

Head coach Mike Elko and his Texas A&M staff started off the Transfer Portal season with a commitment from former UAB quarterback Jacob Zeno.

Zeno will add an elder statesmen and competitive depth to a position room that has several talented young arms including red-shirt freshman starter Marcel Reed, true freshman Miles O’Neill and incoming four-star Brady Hart.

Zeno leaves UAB as the program’s all-time completion percentage leader at a shade under 70 percent. He threw for 4,666 yards in his time under center and 31 touchdowns.

This past fall Zeno played in the first four games throwing for 819 yards and six touchdowns before a shoulder injury ended his campaign. He had a monster red-shirt junior year in the season prior completing over 73 percent of his throws for 3,126 yards and 20 touchdowns with four more rushing scores.

The Aggies look to heat up this week.

New On3 RPM

The No. 2 ranked overall prospect in the Transfer Portal in former Texas Tech receiver Micah Hudson looks to be trending towards the Aggies following his visit to College Station on Tuesday.

Pete Nakos and I have logged On3 RPM’s to reflect that.

Hudson appeared in eight games as a freshman, hauling in eight passes for 123 yards.

The 5-foot-11, 195-pounder was the No. 12 overall prospect in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He ranked as the nation’s No. 4 wide receiver and the No. 4 recruit in Texas.

He originally chose the Red Raiders over Texas and Ohio State, as well as dozens of other offers.

Receiver is a position of need for the Aggies

Former Oklahoma receiver Nic Anderson will be on campus Friday and Saturday. After his Texas A&M trip he’ll head directly to LSU.

Former Mississippi State receiver Mario Craver is also going to be in town this weekend.

The Aggies were one game away from playing in the SEC championship in Elko’s first season and they aim to be in the College Football Playoff next fall. Bolstering the receiver oom is a position of emphasis.

More news and notes

Texas A&M hosted former Nebraska edge rusher Jimari Butler on Tuesday. They’re battling LSU and perhaps Florida State.

As BamaOnLine first reported, former Florida edge rusher Kelby Collins arrives in College Station on Wednesday. He will be at Alabama on Friday.

On Thursday former Nebraska defensive end Princewill Umanmielen and Arkansas cornerback Jaylon Braxton will visit Texas A&M.

It will be a strong weekend that will include one of the most coveted offensive tackles in the transfer portal in Isaiah World, former Purdue linebacker Will Heldt and cornerback Julian Humphrey. The Aggies are a front-runner for World. LSU is also involved with Heldt.
