Texas has rolled through four games, off to a flying start in the 2024 season. Head coach Steve Sarkisian will now lead his team into SEC play after playing the entire nonconference portion of the schedule. Colorado State, UTSA, and Louisiana-Monroe were routine victories while a huge statement was made in Ann Arbor against Michigan.

A huge storyline early in the season has been quarterback usage. Quinn Ewers got injured against UTSA, leading to Arch Manning finishing the game out and starting the following week against ULM. Heading into Saturday, there are still questions about who will take the opening snap of the game.

Ewers is currently listed as questionable but Sarkisian has expressed confidence in both. There will also be a bye week on Oct. 5, giving Ewers time to heal up before the home stretch.

With their entire league schedule ahead, the On3 Massey Ratings project an incredible final eight games. A few monster matchups are set to take place, both in and away from home. Quite the difference from last season in the Big 12.

Texas vs. Mississippi State – 9/28

Texas will play its first-ever SEC game in front of the home crowd with a familiar face on the opposing sideline. Former Oklahoma offensive coordinator Jeff Lebby is now the Mississippi State head coach, looking to get his second straight win against the Longhorns. But the ratings believe Lebby will leave Austin with quite the loss.

Massey Ratings Prediction: Texas 41, Mississippi State 14

Texas vs. Oklahoma (Dallas) – 10/12

Any Texas or Oklahoma fan would tell you no matter the scenario, the Red River Shootout is a true 50/50 contest. The Massey Rating disagrees, favoring the Longhorns at 69%. Ultimately, a difference of a touchdown would take the Golden Hat back down I-35 to Austin.

Massey Ratings Prediction: Texas 31, Oklahoma 24

Texas vs. Georgia – 10/19

Just one blemish is projected on the remaining schedule for Sarkisian’s bunch. Seven days after a huge rivalry game, Georgia will come to the Lone Star State’s capital for what could be one of the biggest contests of the entire 2024 season. Right now, the slightest of edges are being given to Kirby Smart‘s squad.

Massey Ratings Prediction: Georgia 28, Texas 27

Texas at Vanderbilt – 10/26

As Texas goes through a season of first, Vanderbilt will be the first road game in the SEC. While the Commodores are thought to be improved, the Massey Rating projects a blowout. This would bring the Longhorns to 7-1 entering the final month of the season.

Massey Ratings Prediction: Texas 42, Vanderbilt 15

Texas vs. Florida – 11/9

Florida will be in the midst of a brutal stretch in early November. Traveling to face UT will only make the job of Billy Napier harder, coming fresh off their rivalry game against Georgia. The Massey Ratings have Texas by three touchdowns.

Massey Ratings Prediction: Texas 38, Florida 17

Texas at Arkansas – 11/16

Becoming members of the SEC meant a couple of rivalries would be restored. Older fans might tell you this was the fiercest of them all back in the Southwest Conference days. Arkansas got the best of Sarkisian in 2021 but is not picked to do so in 2024.

Massey Ratings Prediction: Texas 35, Arkansas 20

Texas vs. Kentucky – 11/23

A potential trap game for the Longhorns squeezed between two rivalry games? Not for the Massey Ratings as a comfortable win is projected in front of the home fans. This will be the first Kentucky-Texas matchup since 1951 when Bear Bryant and Ed Price were the two respective head coaches.

Massey Ratings Prediction: Texas 35, Kentucky 17

Texas at Texas A&M – 11/30

No matter the records of these two on Nov. 30, Kyle Field will produce an incredible atmosphere. Over a decade in a hiatus will be broken when the Lone Star Showdown once again takes place. Just as the rivalry ended in 2011, the Longhorns are projected winners in College Station this go-round.

Massey Ratings Prediction: Texas 31, Texas A&M 21

Finishing the regular season with an 11-1 record could help Texas accomplish a few of their season-long goals. The Massey Ratings does not project this but you have to imagine just one loss would be enough to get in the SEC Championship game. A second-consecutive College Football Playoff would be a foregone conclusion as well.

The Longhorns got there in 2023 but fell short against Washington in the Sugar Bowl. Sarkisian would hope competing through a tough SEC schedule and earning 11 wins would help the roster push through to a potential national championship.
