Can The 2024 Texas Defense Average 16 Points Per Game?

The injury to Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers is getting all of the attention ahead of Saturday’s game against Louisiana Monroe, and for good reason. But the Longhorns also have several other players banged up.

Head coach Steve Sarkisian was asked about the status of Quintrevion Wisner, Jaydon Blue and Jelani McDonald during his press conference on Thursday.

Specifically, Sarkisian was asked if the trio has been practicing this week.

“In their own ways, varying,” Steve Sarkisian said. “They were all, I guess, limited to some degree. I think all of those guys will kind of be game-time decisions, varying degrees.”

Quintrevion Wisner has played in all three games for Texas this season, making a pair of starts. He has 72 rushing yards and 46 receiving yards on the year.

Jaydon Blue has started two games this season for the Longhorns, but he missed this past Saturday’s game against UTSA. He has 79 rushing yards and 74 receiving yards on the season.

Jelani McDonald played in the first two games of the season but missed the UTSA game. He has four tackles this season for Texas.

Sarkisian implied that two of the three have a decent chance of playing, while one seems unlikely at this point.

“I feel better about maybe a couple of them than another one,” Sarkisian said. “But again, we’ve got two full days and really two-and-a-half days until kickoff. So see how healthy we can get those guys and then potentially what we can get out of them.”

Arch Manning to make first college start as Texas Longhorns host Louisiana Monroe

As for Arch Manning, Texas coach Steve Sarkisian has announced that the sophomore quarterback is set to start the team’s Week 4 game against Louisiana Monroe. For Manning, this is going to be his first start as a college quarterback.

This comes following the injury suffered by starting quarterback Quinn Ewers in Week 3 against UTSA. Sarkisian would later describe it as a non-contact oblique strain. He also shared that Texas considers Ewers’ status to be day-to-day. Now, however, it’s clear he won’t be able to play in Week 4.

Manning replaced Ewers in the win over UTSA and played very well. He finished the game with nine completions for 223 yards and four passing touchdowns. He ran for another touchdown on a 67-yard scramble.

For his efforts, Manning was named SEC Co-Freshman of the Week and earned praise from Sarkisian for how he was able to step up in the win.
