With tons of college baseball taking place Saturday, not too many matchups had the hype of Miami and Texas. Both were victorious in Game 1 of the Coral Gables Regional and were set to face off in the 1-0 games. However, weather is now playing a factor in the start time.

Miami announced there is lightning in the area, delaying when first pitch will take place. There has not been an updated start time to this point, forcing everyone to sit around and wait. Texas had to deal with a weather delay on Friday, now finding themselves in a familiar situation.

“Due to lightning in the area, tonight’s game will NOT begin at 6:06 p.m.,” the tweet said. “We will pass along an updated start time as soon as we receive one.”

Texas Executive Senior Associate AD for External Affairs Drew Martin was on-site at Alex Rodriguez Park at Mark Light FIeld and provided an update on his own. The Miami grounds crew was pulling the tarp onto the field. In his opinion, the delay is going to last for a good amount of time.

Two right-handed pitchers are scheduled to be on the mound, with Karson Ligdon (3-1, 4.25 ERA, 1.20 WHIP) going for Miami and Lebarron Johnson Jr. (7-3, 2.82 ERA, 1.23 WHIP) on the Texas end. As to when they will actually take the mound, we will have to wait and see if the weather holds up.

Miami, Texas preparing to face off in critical regional matchup

When the full field of 64 was released, a potential Miami-Texas matchup was one circled across the country. Two of college baseball’s most historic programs, facing off in the NCAA Tournament is going to be viewed as must-watch television.

Texas took down Louisiana on Friday, while Miami was victorious against four-seed Maine. The Hurricanes had a relatively comfortable 9-1 win, while the Longhorns scraped by with a 4-2 result. Both of those were expected and now we wait for the Saturday matchup to take place.

Louisiana was victorious earlier in the day, waiting for the loser of Miami-Texas. Whoever winds up on the winning end will be in a great position to advance to a Super Regional. Just one more win will be required while needing two defeats to be taken down.

At some point, there will be movement on when the two teams will be ready to take the field.
