Texas, LSU to face off in Halal Guys College Basketball Showcase
The Texas Longhorns announced on their Twitter page on Wednesday evening that they’ll be squaring off against the LSU Tigers in a college basketball showcase in Houston, Texas. The matchup will be a part of the Halal Guys College Basketball Showcase on December 16th. Texas will face off against LSU at 11 a.m. and Houston will battle Texas A&M following the first game at 1:30 p.m.

Texas kicks off their 2023-2024 basketball season with Incarnate Word on November 6th. Then, they’ll face off against Delaware State (Nov. 10th) and Rice (Nov. 15th). The Longhorns are also playing in the Empire Classic, presented by Continental Tire. That tournament is set to be played on November 19th and 20th in Madison Square Garden. they’ll start that tournament against the Louisville Cardinals, but then they’ll face off against either UConn or Indiana, depending on the outcomes of both games.
Texas reeled in plenty of talent from the transfer portal this offseason
The Longhorns landed a massive prospect from the transfer portal in former Oral Roberts superstar Max Abmas. Just how good is Abmas? On3’s Jamie Shaw put him on a list of eight players that could win College Basketball’s Player of the Year in 2023-2024. They also landed big man Kadin Shedrick from Virgnia, who flashed big-time potential at times during his up-and-down career with the Cavaliers. Shedrick had a great performance against the North Carolina Tar Heels in the 2023 ACC Basketball Tournament, blocking five shots in a high-pressure setting.

Shedrick also had the best performance of his career in the Cavaliers’ gut-wrenching loss to the Furman Paladins in the first round of the 2023 NCAA Tournament. He stuffed the stat sheet with 15 points, 13 rebounds, and four blocks.
Texas also has a number of key returning starters, including Dylan Disu, Tyrese Hunter, and Dillon Mitchell. Disu was a breakout star in the Big 12 Tournament for the Longhorns, earning Most Outstanding Player honors for the 2023 Big 12 Tournament. Hunter averaged 10.3 points, three rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game in guiding the Longhorns to the Elite Eight of the 2023 NCAA Tournament. Mitchell was one of the most highly regarded prospects in the country coming out of high school. He started to flash his potential towards the end of the season, averaging 4.3 points and 3.9 rebounds per game.
