ESPN College GameDay is heading to Dallas for Week 6, highlighting the Red River Shootout. Texas and Oklahoma both emerged victorious on Saturday, meaning the two teams are undefeated. And when you have a rivalry game with huge implications on the line, it’s too good of a matchup to pass up.

The show will likely be live from the Cotton Bowl, located inside of the State Fair of Texas. Corny dogs, turkey legs, and whatever else you can fry will make its way to the desk. Lee Corso will put on one of two headgears he is quite familiar with — either Bevo on the Texas side or Boomer from Oklahoma.

Debates might rage on about what the best rivalry in college football is. But there is no doubt about the Red River Shootout being up there. College GameDay is going to be ready to embrace the chaos.

Brent Venables and Oklahoma will be looking for revenge following last season’s 49-0 win in favor of Texas. On the other hand, Steve Sarkisian wants to keep his foot on the gas and continue the great start his football team is off to. And while both teams are playing well heading into the matchup, you may as well throw everything out the window.

Kickoff is scheduled for 11 a.m. with ABC having the broadcast. Now, there will be a pregame party just outside of the stadium with the College GameDay crew.

Texas-Oklahoma matchup no stranger to College GameDay

When GameDay arrives at the Cotton Bowl, this will not be their first rodeo. They have been at the State Fair of Texas seven different times throughout the show’s tenure. History shows us the Sooners wind up performing better when ESPN comes to the game.

Oklahoma has four wins when GameDay highlights the Red River Shootout, with the latest being in the 2021 season. Caleb Williams famously led a second-half comeback in what was the first season of Sarkisian and the final year of Lincoln Riley.

Folks in Austin will likely dream about the 2008 game, the famous 45-35 game with Jordan Shipley taking a kickoff return for a touchdown. Chris Fowler, Lee Corso, and Kirk Herbstreit were in the building for that one, with Texas prevailing in a top-five showdown.

Texas-Oklahoma is a big game to the fans every single year but it’s also a matchup with national implications on a regular basis. You can bet on the 2023 matchup being on the same level.

Texas is likely still going to be ranked inside of the top three, while Oklahoma has a chance of sneaking into the top 10. A big one is upcoming on Saturday in Dallas.
