Texas signee Brenen Thompson runs 10.22 100 meters in first meet
Texas Longhorns wide receiver signee Brenen Thompson posted a 10.22 100 meter time in his first track meet of the season Friday.
The On3 Consensus 4-star in the class of 2022 also posted a time of 21.6 in the 200 meters. The meet was not automatically timed, and wind status is unknown, but this served as a first look this spring at one of the nations fastest prospects.
Prior to this season, Thompson boasted a best 100m time of 10.32 as a sophomore. He ran a fully automatic timed 10.38 as a junior at the Region 1-3A championships before finishing second at state with a 10.40. With his time on Friday, he’s making it clear his sanctioned best time might not hold up much longer.
A bystander who witnessed his 21.6 200m run noted Thompson slowed down after 150 meters. Thompson’s personal best of 21.27 achieved when he won state as a junior is also in peril as he gets deeper into track season.

Thompson is back on the track after missing the majority of his senior season on the gridiron. Thompson had season ending surgery to remove a bone spur from his talus bone that he attempted to play and run track with for about a year. After his race on Friday, Thompson told Inside Texas reporter Justin Wells that he “almost” feels like he’s finally healthy, but that he “feels great.”
Thompson signed with Texas as a member of the Longhorns Top 5 ranked class in 2022. He was On3’s No. 71 player in the country, and the No. 15 player in Texas. The Longhorns 2022 class was headlined by On3 consensus 5-stars Kelvin Banks and Devon Campbell. Thompson was one of three wide receivers in the class, joined by Savion Red and Wyoming transfer Isaiah Neyor.
