Texas Tech is looking for another big in-state recruiting upset this cycle. The Red Raiders are in the mix for Temple (Texas) five-star EDGE Jamarion Carlton, the No. 3 player in the Lone Star State in the 2026 class.

Over the weekend, the 6-foot-4.5, 230-pounder made his way to Lubbock for an official visit. The elite disruptor got to spend more time around the TTU staff and kickstart an OV schedule that will pick back up this summer.

Back in February, Carlton announced his top six schools and Texas Tech did not make the cut. That has not stopped it from continuing to compete with Texas, Texas A&M, SMU and Baylor, as well as out-of-state LSU and USC.

The five-star previously told On3’s Chad Simmons that he was likely going to commit during his senior campaign following his OV schedule. He’s coming off a slew of spring trips and is set to see SMU (June 6), A&M (June 13) and Baylor (June 20) in a little over a month.

“If I can’t take all of the visits in the summer, I will take some during the season. Outside of the relationships, playing early will be a factor in my commitment,” Carlton said earlier this year. “That feeling on campus is important for me too. Feeling comfortable and making sure everything fits me is what I am looking for on the visits and when I make my decision.”

Carlton is the No. 32 overall prospect and No. 4 EDGE in the 2026 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 3 player in Texas.

Looking at Texas Tech’s 2026 class thus far

To date, TTU has 10 commits in its 2026 recruiting class that ranks No. 37 in the nation, according to the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings. Per usual, in-state recruiting wins have built the base to the pledge list in Lubbock.

Eight of the 10 commits hail from Texas, headlined by Georgetown East View four-star linebacker Tieson Ejiawoko. The 6-foot-3 blue-chipper is the No. 400 overall prospect and No. 33 LB in the cycle. Ejiawoko has been in the class since last August.

Four in-state defensive backs are committed to date: Fort Worth North Crowley three-star safety Aaron Bradshaw, Pflugerville Hendrickson three-star safety Maddox Quiller, New Braunfels Canyon three-star cornerback Luke Bell and Terrell CB Noah Lewis.

Amarillo Tascosa three-star defensive lineman Krush Johnson, Mount Pleasant three-star DL Ayden Johnson, Pflugerville Weiss three-star interior offensive lineman Jerald Mays, Savannah (Ga.) Benedictine three-star quarterback Stephen Cannon and Bixby (Okla.) three-star linebacker Cord Nolan round out the class thus far.

The class also ranks No. 8 in the Big 12, ahead of of TCU, UCF, West Virginia, Cincinnati, Arizona, Kansas State and Utah.
