Pflugerville (Texas) Weiss three-star interior offensive lineman Jerald Mays has committed to Texas Tech, according to On3’s Hayes Fawcett.

He chose the Red Raiders over SMU, Ole Miss and Oregon.

Mays is the No. 611 overall prospect and No. 59 IOL in the 2026 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 85 player in Texas.

The 6-foot-2, 280-pounder is a big addition to head coach Joey McGuire’s 2026 recruiting class. He becomes commit No. 8 for TTU, adding to a class that currently ranks inside the top 35 of the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings.

Mays is a part of a respected high school football program in the Lone Star State, as Weiss is coming off an eight-win season in 2024. He played alongside multiple Power Four signees, including four-star wide receiver Adrian Wilson, who signed with Colorado and Deion Sanders.

In-state wins have defined TTU recruiting as of late, and to no surprise, the 2026 class looks to be following that same trend. Of the eight commits in the class, seven hail from Texas.

Georgetown East View four-star linebacker Tieson Ejiawoko is the top-ranked pledge in the mix, checking in as the No. 367 recruit and No. 28 LB in the cycle. He’s been committed since Aug. 16 of last year.

Amarillo Tascosa three-star defensive lineman Krush Johnson and Mount Pleasant three-star DL Ayden Johnson are both top-600 prospects overall. The in-state defensive back trio of Pflugerville Henderson three-star safety Maddox Quiller, New Braunfels Canyon three-star cornerback Luke Bell and Terrell CB Noah Lewis round out the class to date.

Bixby (Okla.) three-star linebacker Cord Nolan is the lone non-Texan currently committed to TTU — he ranks as the No. 11 player in the Sooner State and plays for one of, if not the most prestigious high school football program in the state.
