Texas Tech has landed its second commitment of the day, as Savannah (Ga.) Benedictine Military School three-star quarterback Stephen Cannon tells On3’s Hayes Fawcett that he’s pledged to the Red Raiders.

He chose the Big 12 program over Georgia Tech, App State, UCF and Wake Forest.

Cannon is the No. 979 overall prospect and No. 64 QB in the 2026 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 95 player in Georgia.

Earlier on Tuesday, TTU added a commitment from Pflugerville (Texas) Weiss three-star interior offensive lineman Jerald Mays. Head coach Joey McGuire and the Red Raiders now have nine commits in their 2026 recruiting class, which ranks No. 34 in the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings.

As a junior for Benedictine, Cannon threw for 1,352 yards and 11 touchdowns, per MaxPreps. He also ran for three scores as the Cadets won eight games in 2024 and finished as the No. 39 team in the Peach State, per the On3 Composite Rankings.

Red Raiders picking up recruiting momentum

Cannon is just the second out-of-state prospect to commit to Texas Tech this cycle. He joins Bixby (Okla.) three-star linebacker Cord Nolan, who pledged last month.

Georgetown (Texas) East View four-star linebacker Tieson Ejiawoko is the top-ranked pledge in the mix, checking in as the No. 367 recruit and No. 28 LB in the cycle. He’s been committed since Aug. 16 of last year.

Amarillo (Texas) Tascosa three-star defensive lineman Krush Johnson and Mount Pleasant (Texas) three-star DL Ayden Johnson are both top-600 prospects overall. The in-state defensive back trio of Pflugerville (Texas) Henderson three-star safety Maddox Quiller, New Braunfels (Texas) Canyon three-star cornerback Luke Bell and Terrell (Texas) CB Noah Lewis round out the class to date.

The class also currently ranks No. 6 in the Big 12, checking in ahead of BYU, Iowa State, Oklahoma State, West Virginia and others. TTU signed the nation’s No. 43 class in 2025.
