Terrence Shannon Jr. already hearing from multiple schools
One of the more interesting names in the transfer portal early in the cycle is Terrence Shannon Jr. Playing with the Texas Tech Red Raiders, the forward could be looking to play his basketball somewhere other than Lubbock next season, although a return is not out of the equation.
Since entering the portal on Friday afternoon, Shannon has already heard from a few of the biggest schools in the country, with the Kentucky Wildcats being the biggest. Working the transfer portal well last season, head coach John Calipari will be looking to retool his team from there again for next year. Shannon would make a perfect 3-and-D option for the Wildcats.
Outside of Kentucky, the Illinois Fighting Illini, Michigan Wolverines, and UConn Huskies. Being a native of Chicago, IL, it’s not a surprise teams from the Big Ten are reaching out, especially Illinois. Current Illini assistant coach Tim Anderson used to be the head coach of DePaul, where Shannon originally committed in high school.
Shannon has spent the last three seasons with the Red Raiders under head coaches Chris Beard and Mark Adams. An experienced NCAA Tournament veteran, Texas Tech ended their season on Thursday night, losing to the Duke Blue Devils in the Sweet Sixteen. Shannon averaged 10.3 points in three March Madness games this year.
In his overall career, Shannon has averaged 11 points in 83 games, adding on 3.6 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game. Shannon has been consistent throughout his three years with the three-point shot, going 35.1% throughout his career. His best shooting year came during the 2021-2022 season, making 38.1% from behind the arc.

Coming out of high school, Shannon was a four-star prospect according to the On3 Consensus. Originally from Chicago, the forward transferred to IMG Academy to play his high school basketball. Shannon ranked as the No. 2 player in the state of Illinois and No. 95 nationally in the 2019 recruiting class.
If Shannon is going to leave Texas Tech, it seems as if he will not be playing from inside the Big 12. With Illinois being seen as a big threat, Kentucky and Michigan are two other big named programs the forward has an option to play for next season. All three programs are looking to break through and at least make the Final Four while contending for national championships.
Shannon will have plenty of options as the transfer process plays out. Even in the early stages, some quality options are open for one of the best in the country.
