As Texas and Texas A&M get ready to renew the Lone Star Showdown, tensions are already running high. Staffers from both programs exchange words as a scuffle broke out pregame.

Saturday night marks the first time Texas and Texas A&M will square off since 2011. That was the final year the Aggies were in the Big 12, and Justin Tucker hit the game-winning field goal to seal a Longhorns victory in what, at the time, was the final installment of the rivalry.

Thirteen years later, the two teams will battle it out once again at Kyle Field. It looks like the fireworks are starting early, though.

Of course, Saturday’s game has more stakes than just the in-state rivalry’s return. The winner advances to the SEC Championship for a date with Georgia. That adds to the juice of the matchup, which will be in front of a packed house and raucous environment in College Station.

Steve Sarkisian will also get his first taste of the rivalry with Texas A&M when the game kicks off, and he expressed his excitement for the game’s return. He knows how much it means to the state as a whole, which makes it even more special.

“I think it’s so cool that we’re playing this game again,” Sarkisian said earlier this week. “But the key to the drill, as I just told the team, it’s like, okay, we’re all excited. We all want to win next week. What are we doing today? Right now, when I get done speaking, to prepare for that? Because I think preparation is what leads to a positive performance.

“I think it’s great for college football, that this game with us and them is going to matter on a grander scale than just what’s happening in the state of Texas. But I also know how much it means to every household in the state of Texas. So it’s pretty cool to be part of. I’m really excited.”
