The Heisman Trophy is one of the most recognizable awards in all of sports. Now, college football’s most prestigious honor is getting a new look.

The physical trophy won’t actually be changing though. However, the Heisman logo has been modified and will have a new semblance heading into 2023. The change was unveiled and announced earlier today in a tweet from the trust’s account.

USC QB Caleb Williams is the reigning Heisman after hoisting the trophy in ’22. He was the 87th recipient of the award after throwing for over 4,500 passing yards and 42 touchdowns in his first season in Los Angeles.

Over the course of the offseason, On3’s Jesse Simonton went conference by conference and named each of his Top-10 contenders heading into the fall. His Top-10 list overall then featured several top-notch quarterbacks and, arguably, the sport’s best skill position player.

Williams was listed at No. 1 overall to repeat. The top-five also consisted of Florida State’s Jordan Travis, Texas’ Quinn Ewers, Michigan’s JJ McCarthy, and LSU’s Jayden Daniels. From there, it listed North Carolina’s Drake Maye, Notre Dame’s Sam Hartman, Washington’s Michael Penix Jr., and Clemson’s Cade Klubnik. Ohio State WR Marvin Harrison Jr. then rounded out the group at No. 10.

With that said, the Heisman is more than just an award. As the clip points out, the trust’s efforts also go a long way in impacting tons of people. Per the stats listed in the video release, recipients and donations have been able to help all kinds of charities and individuals.

USC’s Caleb Williams won the Heisman Trophy in 2022 and is the betting favorite to become just the second two-time winner, joining only Ohio State’s Archie Griffin.

Last month, On3’s Jesse Simonton outlined the most viable (and logical) Top 5 candidates from each Power 5 conference (plus Notre Dame) for the nation’s most prestigious award. 

The SEC’s Top 5 candidates
The Big Ten’s Top 5 candidates
The ACC/Notre Dame’s Top 5 candidates
The Pac-12’s Top 5 candidates
The Big 12’s Top 5 candidates

There were plenty of potential candidates who are the longest of long-shots, but they deserved mention. But what about the most realistic Top 10 Heisman Trophy contenders?

Which players, and just as important these days — which quarterbacks on potential College Football Playoff teams — are best positioned to earn an invite to New York City in December? As a reminder, Williams became the first Heisman Trophy winner since Lamar Jackson in 2016 to not lead his team to the College Football Playoff. 

With few exceptions, this has become a QB award going to the guy on one of the country’s best teams. Maybe that will change this fall. I doubt it.
