The Inside Scoop: 4-star Arion Carter is processing his recruiting rise
Smyrna (Tenn.) four-star linebacker and Memphis commit Arion Carter has become one of the hottest names on the recruiting trail over the past few weeks.
And as On3 Director of Recruiting Chad Simmons told Josh Newberg on the latest episode of the The Inside Scoop, it has been a lot for Carter and his family to process.
“It’s happened super fast you know for him and his family, I’ll say that,” Simmons said. “In talking to him and people in his circle the word overwhelmed has come up multiple times on both sides. Just really trying to take it all in, get on the phone with all these different coaches from different schools, figure out does he want to take some unofficial first then decide on official visits. Does he want to stay with Memphis or not? There’s a lot happening day to day right now for Arian Carter.”
Carter ranks as only the No. 1187 overall recruit in the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. However, that will likely rise very soon. He is graded as a four-star prospect by On3.

Some of the offers Carter has received in recent weeks include Alabama, Auburn, Kentucky, LSU, Michigan, Oregon, Tennessee and USC.
The Crimson Tide, in particular, stand out to Simmons for the work they are putting in with Carter. He visited the school September 17 and is scheduled to return this weekend for the Texas A&M game.
“I do think Alabama has done a great job,” Simmons said. “When they offered, they got him on campus right away, spent time with him and his family in Tuscaloosa, meeting Nick Saban. I don’t want to say hearing Alabama’s pitch but seeing what they’re about, how they do things, how the program structured in Tuscaloosa made a big impression. I think Bama’s definitely a lock to get one of those official visits and the others are still being fought for I have a pretty good idea who might get some but nothing’s locked in just yet.”
