Three-star LB Justin Medlock commits to Miami Hurricanes
Manvel (Texas) linebacker Justin Medlock took an official visit to Miami June 11, and when he left Coral Gables to head back home, he felt he may have found his future home.
The 6-foot-1, 210-pound three-star continued to communicate with other schools, and he weighed his options, but that feeling he left Miami with never went away.
“I have committed to Miami and that official visit did have a lot to do with it,” said Medlock. “The vibe was great and I left knowing that was going to be a top school for me.
“After thinking about it to myself for a little while, I knew Miami would be the best fit for me.”
Minnesota, Ohio State, Oklahoma and Oregon are the schools Medlock named as the schools the Hurricanes beat for his commitment.
Manny Diaz and the staff in Coral Gables received this news earlier this month. Medlock loved their reaction.
“I committed about a week and a half ago. I told coach [Jonathan] Patke (inside linebackers) and coach Diaz about my commitment. They were both super-excited and happy to have me when I gave them the news.”

Medlock knows about the history at Miami. Ray Lewis is one of the best linebackers of all time. He was a star for the Hurricanes. Michael Barrow, Jon Beason and Jonathan Vilma are some of the other linebackers that starred at Miami before having strong NFL careers.
“A lot of NFL greats have came through Miami, so it’s an honor to be committed to them,” said Medlock. “My recruitment was a very, very tough process, so it is a huge relief to be done with it before my senior year starts.
“I am so excited to be committed to Miami and now I can just focus on football.”
