Tim Tebow breaks down chances Boise State upsets Penn State in College Football Playoff
Tim Tebow is amped for Boise State taking on Penn State in the Fiesta Bowl and warned that the Nittany Lions are going to have to play fundamentally sound.
Sure, Penn State is an 11.5 point favorite despite the Broncos getting the No. 3 seed and first round bye. But, that doesn’t mean this will be any kind of cakewalk.
Penn State’s roster is definitely better top to bottom, based on the amount of talent they have, but Boise State has high quality and Heisman finalist Ashton Jeanty.
“I think when you look top to bottom roster of athletes, yes, Penn State has a superior roster, but that doesn’t always mean it’s that much (more of a) superior team,” Tebow told On3. “Spencer Danielson is doing a fantastic job at Boise State, his passion, his charisma. I think he’s got a chance to be a very special coach, to be able to keep someone like Ashton and have Ashton buy into the team … And even though Penn State is a superior team, I really think that they’re going to have to play sentimentally, fundamentally sound.
“They’re going to have to execute at a high level, because Boise is going to play with extreme passion, a relentless effort. Ashton is one of the best players in the country, for sure, and there’s just not enough praise that goes to the rest of the team as well. So I’m excited about this matchup tonight, it’s gonna be a really fun one.”

With the way Boise State operates, it seems Penn State’s best bet is to limit Jeanty. Good luck because no one has been able to do so.
“I got the privilege of speaking to their team before the season, and Ashton came up to me and he said, ‘By the way, I’m going to see you in New York at the end of the year,’” Tebow said. “And he didn’t say it in an arrogant way at all. It was actually extremely humble, but he’s just talking about the work that he’s put in. And there’s just a mindset of the team, like success wasn’t a shock to them. It was their mindset, it was the grind, it was what they did in the weight room.
“And that’s kind of the philosophy and the build. I share that story because I think it represents the team, you know, and then when I saw him in New York, he said, ‘By the way, I told you I was going to see you here,’ and I was like, ‘I love it’ … It really wasn’t out of arrogance. It was like, no, that’s a goal. It’s our dream. And every day we’re chopping away to get there.”
