Tim Tebow loves the way Garrett Nussmeier is playing this season, but for the love of everything sacred, he has to be protected.

Tebow watched the LSU quarterback get hit “over and over” in the win over South Carolina. With UCLA on the docket, Nussmeier would probably prefer a clean pocket.

Tebow broke down what’s the biggest thing for LSU, in relation to supporting Nussmeier.

“Garrett Nussmeier is for real,” Tebow said on SportsCenter. “This kid can make every throw, but I got to be honest, he needs a lot of help. He needs more help from his offensive line, he needs more help from his running game. And for sure, he needs more help from his defense. You can’t just put him in second and third and long and think that he can come up with it time and time again. He’s going to need more help.

“Last week, he got hit over and over and over again, and you’re going to have to protect him better. I would also look to go empty so he can get it out quick, or have seven man protection, because that also worked really well last week for them against South Carolina. So even though you got great quarterback play and receivers, you need help from your physical big boys up front.”

As a member of the Class of 2021, Nussmeier was a four-star recruit out of Flower Mound (Texas) Marcus, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He was the No. 15 overall prospect in the state, the No. 11 quarterback in the class and the No. 88 overall prospect in the class.

“Well, pleased with a lot of things that he’s doing. But what he’s done is he’s changed the bar,” Brian Kelly said. “He has now put that bar really high, because he’s done so many good things. So now we can start talking about elevating where he is.”
