Tim Tebow reveals why Florida-Kentucky is a must-win for both programs
Two potential SEC East spoilers will face off this weekend when Florida takes on Kentucky in the Bluegrass State. Georgia is the unquestioned top dawg in the division but the spots behind it in the standings are up for grabs among the other six SEC East teams.
That backdrop is part of what makes the game so important, according to SEC Network analyst and former Gators star Tim Tebow. The former Heisman Trophy winner explained Friday on The Paul Finebaum Show why the game is so important to both teams.
“It’s a really important game for both teams,” Tebow said. “You look at this opportunity in the East: who’s going to really challenge Georgia in the East. Both these teams have a chance. And you’re looking at Missouri, they have another SEC game and they have a chance to be able to be 5-0. Every team’s got the opportunity to take that next spot. But this is going to be a really fascinating one because they’re also very similar. Both teams really good running the ball. Both teams really good against the run.”
Florida enters the game with a 4-0 record while Kentucky is 3-1. However, Florida has faced a much more difficult schedule.
The Gators lost in Week 1 to a very strong Utah team in the Beehive State. But Florida rebounded to upset Tennessee two weeks later in arguably Billy Napier‘s biggest victory as the head coach of the program.

Tebow said he “can’t wait to see” the Florida offense.
“What they’ve done lately with this two-headed monster at running back and getting Graham Mertz some more experience and into this rhythm,” Tebow said. “Then you’re going up against Kentucky’s front seven, which is the best run defense in the SEC right now statistically. I can’t wait for that matchup.”
He also explained that both teams have a very similar football style, and that it should make for a really compelling game.
“Both these teams, they got such similar style,” “Tebow said. “They do it in different ways. But it is about ground and pound. It is control the time of possession. It is about stop the running game. Then defensively, it is about getting tips and overthrows and coming up with turnovers. They want to play the same style of football. The styles make the fights and I think this makes a very interesting fight.”
