Meanwhile, Kansas is on a four-year winning streak — which spans over two matchups against Kentucky. That means they’ve swept their opposition and then some over that span. During that time, Kansas is the only program of the four that have won a national championship, winning the NCAA Tournament in 2022.
The series — which was originally supposed to end in 2013 after each team had the opportunity to play each other in the round-robin format — is set to be played through the 2025-26 season. That will once again see Kansas vs. Duke and Kentucky vs. Michigan State.
Looking ahead to the 2024-25 college basketball season, Kansas and Duke once again look like strong preseason contenders to make a run in March. Meanwhile, Michigan State has Tom Izzo and while he’s there, the Spartans always have a chance.
Kentucky on the other hand has undergone the most change seeing former head coach John Calipari skip town to take the Arkansas job while UK alum Mark Pope was hired to replace him. The Wildcats will look completely different by the time they arrive in Atlanta for the State Farm Champions Classic. How they perform in the event may be a strong indicator of how Kentucky will fare under its new leadership.
