TJ Caldwell: Class of 2022 shooting guard cuts list to 8
TJ Caldwell, a 6-foot-4 shooting guard out of DeSoto (Texas) Waxahachie Faith Family Academy tells On3 he is down to eight schools – Arizona State, USC, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, West Virginia, Maryland, Oklahoma, and TCU.
Caldwell has three official visits set up. He’ll be at Ole Miss on Sept. 10, Arizona State on Sept. 17, and Mississippi State on Oct. 17.
TJ Caldwell discussed each option with On3.
Caldwell on Arizona State
“They send me a lot of videos of their style of play,” Caldwell said. “I’ve been following up on Josh Christopher, so I watched a lot of their games. I like Coach (Bobby) Hurley. He wants me to come in and be the point guard and be the leader. He talks about my development a lot and getting me to the league where I wanna be.”
Caldwell on USC
“Before Peach Jam, I was kinda set on them so I was just waiting on the offer,” Caldwell said. “And when I got it, I was pretty excited. I talk to all their coaches. They would call me before and after my games. They talk to my dad a lot. So I really like them.”
Caldwell on Ole Miss
“All their coaches talk to me too,” Caldwell said. “They probably talk to me the most. They call me every other day. I just had a Zoom with them about two days ago. Just looking at their style of play, with all the coaches and my family.”

Caldwell on Mississippi State
“Their coaching staff is cool too,” Caldwell said. “They just called me before this interview. I’m building a good relationship with them.”
Caldwell on West Virginia
“They hopped on at Peach Jam,” Caldwell said. “I’ve been talking to them a lot. I’m pretty sure I’m going to schedule a visit to them, I just don’t have a date yet.”
Caldwell on Maryland
“Same as them…they hopped on at Peach Jam,” Caldwell said. “They’ve been talking to me a lot too.”
Caldwell on Oklahoma
“They’ve been recruiting me the longest on this list,” Caldwell said. “They came in at the beginning of the summer.”
Caldwell on TCU
“They came into the mix just recently,” Caldwell. “My coaches went over there and he told me that they had like a paper of synergy with all my stuff on there. So they’ve been looking at me a lot. And it’s a Texas school too so I’ve been looking at them a lot.”
