TJ Capers doesn’t see any reason to wait. The five-star 2024 linebacker out of Miami (Fla.) Columbus is ready to make his college commitment, and he’ll do so on Saturday, January 7th during the All-American Bowl.

Capers isn’t participating in the game as a junior, but he couldn’t think of a better way to announce it. He’ll be live from an Airbnb in Miami, where he’ll let the world know which school he plans to attend.

“I decided to do it this weekend because it’d be a big thing to put my name out there and tell them where I’m going at the All-American Bowl,” he told On3. “That’s one of the best places to do it, especially now with so many of the 2023 guys signing early. I think I’ll have a lot of eyes on me to see where I’m going.”

TJ Capers will decide between five programs

Capers named his top five schools just a week ago: Louisville, Georgia, Colorado, Miami, and USC. He still has almost a year until he can sign a National Letter of Intent, but the No. 10 overall player and top linebacker in in the On3 Consensus feels very good about his decision.

“I kind of made my decision on which school I was going to in the last few weeks,” he said. That’s when I really made my mind up and knew that’s where I want to spend my academic and athletic career. I always knew I would commit this early. I fell in love with the place, and it’s where I want to call home.”

Capers isn’t revealing anything about which school it is he’s choosing, but he did say that he thinks he — and other recruits — can make a major impact there.

“I really like this school because of the competition,” he added. “That’s great for me, and I see the other linebackers playing and I think I fit in the scheme well. I can excel there, and I think once I bring some other recruits in, we can change the program for a long time.”
